Young toddlers {12 to 18 months} are right in the middle of the sensitive period for gross motor development. They actually can't be still during this time period. It is important to provide outlets for them (safely) to move, to climb, to jump, and to throw.
Developing these gross motor skills is essential to their ability to focus on other skills later. They have an internal drive to move and refine their physical movements.
In the picture above, Liu laoshi dropped dozens of colorful balls for kids to pick up. Naming the ball colors helped children to learn language and chasing the balls helped children to move.
